AIRCRAFT CONSTRUCTION 

Our planes are carefully and skillfully built by hand, and we are looking for a person to assist in the Primary and Final Assembly department.

This work involves custom construction of aircraft parts, and building the aircraft one at a time. Experience in aviation is preferred, sheet metal or construction experience a plus.

 

Qualities needed:

  • Mechanically inclined and detail oriented

  • AbLE to read prints

  • Experienced in using hand tools and basic shop equipment

RESTAURANT OPERATIONS MANAGER

With our expansion of the facilities, we have a unique opportunity available to start up and manage the operations of our NEW restaurant on the airfield. Opening late spring 2020, the brand-new restaurant will seat up to 98 guests and will be fully stocked with the latest kitchen equipment.

 

We are in search of an individual to join our growing team, to develop and implement restaurant processes as well as oversee daily restaurant operations in both front and back of the house. If you are an enthusiastic, talented, dynamic manager with previous experience in restaurant operations and start-ups, we strongly urge you to apply!

 

Start-up responsibilities include:

  • Establish Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Assist with obtaining necessary licensing/permits for the restaurant

  • Ensure compliance with all local liquor laws, and health and sanitation regulations

  • Select, hire and train personnel

  • Establish vendor relationships and food/supplies sourcing

  • Research and implement Point of Sale technology with the help of our IT department

  • Address any additional issues as they occur during the start-up process

 

Regular Operations Responsibilities Include:

  • Coordinate and oversee daily front and back of house restaurant operations.

  • Manage staff and overall kitchen operations, including hiring, training, scheduling, discipline, performance reviews, and termination of employment within WACO Aircraft policies.

  • Ensure strict standards for cleanliness, food safety, sanitation, food presentation, preparation times, freshness and quality of food.

  • Menu planning and preparation.

  • Work closely with our marketing department for advertising, specials, etc.

  • Maintain exceptionally high levels of guest service and product quality, while ensuring efficient daily operations.

  • Respond to guest complaints in a timely manner.

  • Monitor quality of service and product.

  • Analyze financial reports to identify and address trends and issues in sales, promos, voids, labor costs, food costs and operational expenses.

  • Report and document any observed or known safety hazards, conditions or unsafe practices and procedures to WACO management immediately.  Ensure safe work conditions and practices, and report any injuries as per WACO Aircraft procedures.

  • Other responsibilities as required to ensure the smooth operation of the restaurant.

  

Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of proven restaurant management experience in a small (non-franchise) restaurant setting required. Local experience is preferred.

  • An additional 3 years of non-management experience preferred, such as wait or kitchen staff.

  • Experience in serving and managing beer, wine and liquor.

  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills, as well as people skills.

  • Must be flexible and be willing to handle whatever work is necessary to ensure smooth operations of the restaurant.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects with a strong attention to detail.

  • Must exhibit the highest level of professionalism.

  • Must be self-motivated, results driven, and have the ability to think critically.

AIRCRAFT MECHANIC

Licensed A&P wanted to work on our unique biplanes, as well as general aviation aircraft.

WACO Aircraft produces the WACO YMF-5 and the Great Lakes 2T-1A-2 biplanes.  Our company is growing, and we are looking for a reliable aircraft mechanic to join our service division, Centennial Aircraft Services. 

 

At Centennial, you’ll have the chance to work on a variety of interesting aircraft, including the WACO’s that we build.  This position can be full or part-time, M-F, with some flexibility in the hours. 

What you'll be doing:

 

  • Correctly and efficiently complete assigned service, maintenance, and repair work

  • Troubleshoot problems, perform corrective actions including repair and replacement of component

  • Accurately records actions and maintenance performed on aircraft, engine and component records, forms and other applicable documentation as required

  • Other duties as assigned

What we're looking for:

  • Piston experience preferred

  • Able to demonstrate analytical thinking

AIRCRAFT SALES

 

We've got a unique opportunity for an individual interested in working in aircraft sales.

 

You must currently possess a private pilot license and be tailwheel competent to be considered for this position.  Previous experience in aviation, especially aircraft sales, is a plus.

You’ll need a strong work ethic and drive to succeed, be outgoing, have excellent organizational skills, be able to manage details, and have a great team attitude.  You’ll need to be proactive and able to work independently.

You will be communicating with our customers and potential customer.  It is very important that you have exceptional verbal and written skills, including grammar and spelling, and can write well-thought-out emails.  Good interpersonal skills are vital.

Some of the things you’ll be doing include:

  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with current and new customers.

  • Maintaining a database of potential buyers, and tracking sales status.

  • Coordinating sales efforts with our marketing staff.

  • Following up on inquiries and qualifying buyers.

  • Preparing sales/information packages.

  • Giving demo flights to potential buyers.

  • Preparing aircraft spec sheets and quotes, and ensuring the specifications are communicated to the production staff when sales are made.

  • Preparing sales contracts.

  • Attending air shows and industry events.

  • Remaining informed of trends and news in aviation.

  • Developing knowledge of WACO Aircraft, its departments and processes, and the unique strengths of the company.

  • Representing WACO Aircraft to the public in a positive, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable  manner.

This person will work out of our facility in Battle Creek, MI.

INVENTORY CLERK

We are looking for a person to join our inventory team that keeps our parts room organized, stocked correctly and helps keep the production floor supplied with needed parts. Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating the availability of parts for the production process

  • Maintaining accurate inventory on the shelves and in the computer system

  • Assisting shop staff with additional parts as needed

  • Pulling parts and sending part kits to the production floor

  • Reconciling vendor invoices

  • Creating work orders

  • Restocking of inventory

  • Other duties as needed

 

Computer literacy is required, as well as strong organizational and planning skills. An ability to read prints is preferred. Must be able to focus among distractions and have a positive attitude.  This is a full-time position, with hours from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

PARTS ROOM ASSISTANT

We are looking for a person to assist with keeping our parts room organized and stocked correctly, and helping keep the production floor supplied with needed parts.

 

Basic work will involve:

  • Pulling parts to go into kits for the shop floor

  • Returning unused parts to the appropriate bins in the parts room

  • Assisting shop staff with additional parts as needed

  • Stocking bins when parts orders are received from vendors

TIG WELDER

WACO Aircraft is seeking an experienced and reliable TIG welder who is able to weld aluminum, steel, and stainless steel. Familiarity with metal working shop tools are a must, as well as blueprint reading, and measuring equipment.

 

The successful candidate for this position will have:

  • Previous experience with TIG welding

  • A good eye for detail, and pride in craftsmanship

You’ll need your own welding helmet and other basic tools, any specialty tools will be supplied. A welding test will be required before hire.

PAINTER

We are looking for a person to work in our aircraft paint department, assisting with laying out and painting custom paint schemes that are unique with each aircraft.

 

Work includes things like laying out striping, mixing and spraying paint, sanding, taping, masking, priming, cleaning and preparing parts and aircraft surfaces. Experience in aircraft or auto body painting is required, and an interest in aviation is a plus.
